The Oa, a broad peninsula forming the south-western tip of Islay, is home to numerous and varied historic rural settlement remains, including deserted farming townships, kilns, field systems, and shielings. The remains are so numerous, that no all the NMRS numbers can be listed here (but these can be identified through the CANMAP facility on the website of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland). You may also wish to visit the Museum of Islay Life.
