>> Township Cosàg: survey and strategy for reuse

Cosàg, Glenelg, Skye & Lochalsh District, Highland Region

The township Cosàg (NGR 8229 1929) is one of hundreds scattered throughout Scotland for which little research has been undertaken. With our project, research is being done on the mid 19th century houses and the area itself. A number of sites have been described, photographed and measured already. A strategy for reuse will be developed.

Glenelg, referring here to the peninsula lying between Kintail to the north and Knoydart to the south, is situated on the North West coast opposite the Isle of Skye in one of the more geographically remote parts of mainland Scotland. It is an area of significant landscape quality, characterised by a number of sweeping peaks, interspersed by the steep-sided costal straths of Glen More and Glen Beag. There are also a number of significant cultural heritage sites, such as the Brochs at Glen Beag and the Bernera Barracks.

The project will take place in 2004/2005 at the University of Kassel, Germany.
