Families evicted from the Langwell Strath reluctantly occupied this deserted settlement precariously perched on the cliff edge. It is said that children had to be tethered to prevent them falling over the cliff! Some of the families eventually emigrated to New Zealand. The remains of one of the houses have been used to build a memorial cairn to the inhabitants.
