A.C.F.A. Projects: Raasay, Glen Lochay, and Eaglesham
The Association of Certificated Field Archaeologists (A.C.F.A.) have three projects ongoing at the moment:

Isle of Raasay, Skye & Lochalsh District, Highland Region
A.C.F.A. has been surveying in Raasay since 1995 and the plans for 2004 are well advanced. The purpose of the survey is to record all the physical remains of human activity from the Mesolithic to modern times. The Association hopes to eventually complete a survey of the whole island to provide a record of life and land use through the millennia. We still have a considerable area to cover but hopefully we should complete the survey within the next 5 years. All our results, including the 2003 survey, are published as ACFA Occasional papers, 11 papers in all ( Nos 13, 18, 26, 32, 43, 47, 57, 58, 59, 62 and 63 ). Copies of the papers are lodged with NMRS and can be found in main libraries. The survey has been funded at various times by The Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, Glasgow Archaeology Society and CBA Challenge Funding, The survey is directed jointly by John Macdonald and Scott Wood.

Glen Lochay, nr. Killin, Perthshire
Since a survey was undertaken in 1990 of the deserted township of Tirai and the immediate surroundings in Glen Lochay, ACFA has continued to survey parts of the Glen as well as the village of Milton of Lawers on Loch Tayside. To date 8 Occasional Papers have been published (ACFA Occasional Paper Nos. 9, 21, 31, 35, 36, 37, 38, 54), recording sites from pre-historic to modern, with a preponderance of Medieval or Later Rural Settlement sites. When the work on the Glen is completed there will be a substantial record of life and work in a Scottish glen. The director of the survey is Dugie MacInnes.

Eaglesham, East Renfrewshire

The project is an in depth survey of the farms around Eaglesham. It has been running for 6 years and has produced 5 ACFA Occasional Papers ( Nos 46, 49, 50, 60 ). There is also an excavation report (Paper No 48). It is expected that work will continue for the foreseeable future. The survey is directed jointly by Susan and Robin Hunter
